This year I decided I wanted to put a Christmas tree up in my craft room. And I thought it would be extra awesome if all the ornaments on it and the tree skirt were crocheted. I set out to find the coolest ornament patterns I could and along the way came up with a few of my own.
The first criteria I had was that each of the ornament patterns be free. The second criteria was that most of them use worsted-weight yarn since that’s what I have the most of on hand. I did end up with one ornament requiring a fur yarn that I just had to make, a second with a fuzzy accent piece, and one that can be made with fuzzy yarn or worsted.
I really could not love my completed Christmas tree any more! It really brings a smile to my face every time I enter my craft room. You could put these ornaments on your own tree, make some to give away, or even use them as decorations on your wrapped gifts.
Crocheted Ornament Patterns:
Let’s kick off my ornament round up with the Cuddle Buddies Ornaments. These are three ornaments I made using the animal appliques I released this year for a
baby blanket.
There's a cute little monkey.
This sloth ornament that I did make with a furry yarn, but the pattern was originally written with worsted weight, so you could make it either way.
And an adorable koala with a fuzzy ear accent.
To me this Rustic Village Ornament almost looks quilted, which I love. It’s a different look than the others on my tree and gives it a bit of that old-school feel.
I have had this stocking ornament and the matching hat ornament on my list of to do’s for years because I think they just look so awesome. They were the first ones on my list when I decided to actually put together a list.
It's it just the cutest miniature hat?
This peppermint candy ornament is a pretty fast project but looks so interesting with the alternating colors. I liked that it was different shape than the others too - a bit of variety on the tree looks good, wouldn't you agree?
This owl ornament works up to be one of the cutest darn things I’ve ever made. It looks like a tiny stuffed animal for your tree, and you can’t even tell the fluffy part is crochet. Ashley, the pattern designer, even has tips for working with the fur yarn if that’s new for you.
This candy cane ornament has a real vintage feel for me. I remember having one of these on Christmas trees from my younger days a million years ago and decided I needed to make one for my craft room tree. Plus, it only took me about 10 minutes to whip one up. Win/win in my book.
I just love gnomes year-round and will find a way to incorporate them into pretty much every holiday. I think they lend themselves to Christmas especially well. I really like the gingerbread look to this little guy. He’s cute AND tasty looking.
This wreath ornament is another really fast ornament that looks very old fashioned and fun to me. Can you tell that it’s made from the ring cap off a gallon of milk? Crazy, right? I also hot glued on some ribbon and beads as a finishing touch.
I love the complicated look of these folded ornaments that are actually very simple to make. I put together my own pattern for these and you only need to crochet four circles and sew them together. The little gold balls are hot glued on making them super easy to attach.
And if you make one with two colors of yarn, it looks even cooler, in my opinion.
This Christmas Ball Ornament looks so classy and worked up very quickly. In the pattern the designer, Erin, gives you all kind of information on different glass or plastic ornaments you can use on the inside, and lots of yarn variations so you can try to use what you have on hand. I used Yarn Bee Velvety Smooth Sparkle in Navy and held two strands together.
And did you know that you can use key chain patterns for Christmas ornaments?! Yep, you sure can. I made this lovely, smiley avocado ornament using such a pattern and it's just the right size for a tree.
I finished it all off with a crocheted tree skirt because why not? I think the pom poms on this are just perfect and I love it. I added on quite a few rows to the pattern because my Christmas tree is larger than the one from the pattern and it came out great.
